My Next Chapter: Magenta Super Saturday - Stencils and Shaving Cream

I have one last shaving cream technique to share with you today. I’m using a stencil again, but this time I’ve added some gold embossing using the “Flowers All Over” stencil.

To create this card, I started by using my powder tool on a piece of white, 80# cardstock. I taped the stencil to the cardstock then colored in the flowers and shapes openings with a VersaMark pen. I worked on one section at a time, coloring approximately a quarter of the stencil openings at a time, then removing the stencil and covering the inked areas with Brutus Monroe Gilded Gold embossing powder. After heat setting the embossing powder, I allowed it to cool for a few seconds, then replaced the stencil and repeated the process until all the stencil openings had been embossed. I did several of these pieces because I wanted to make a bunch of cards at one time. Plus, you get two cards from each panel.

To create the colored background you see in the picture, I prepared my shaving cream and alcohol ink using the process you can see here. After the cardstock was dry, I cut the panels to 4 ¼” x 4 ¼”. (I could have started with this size cardstock but I have a bunch of pre-cut A2 cardstock that I grabbed when I started these cards.)

Next, I cut the panels across the diagonal, creating two triangle pieces. I also cut some 4 ¼” square gold cardstock into triangles in the same way.

I splattered some gold paint on the front of a white, A2 card. I also stamped the sentiment onto a piece of white cardstock and embossed with gold embossing powder. I cut the sentiment piece with a 3 1/8" stitched oval die and then cut a piece of gold cardstock with a 3 1/2" stitched oval die.

I layered the stenciled triangle piece over the gold triangle piece so that the short edges of the triangles were staggered to show a thin gold border.

I adhered them to the card front with the long side of the stenciled piece even with the folded edge of the card. Use scissors to trim off the edges at the top and bottom of the card. To finish the card, I adhered the sentiment.

These shaving cream backgrounds are so much fun to make and I always make a stack of them at one time. I think this technique would work great with a variety of stencils and sentiments so I hope you will try it.
