Christmas in June

Welcome back to my blog and Magenta Super Saturday.  I’m trying to get a head start on my Christmas cards.  Today I’m using a panel that I created in a previous blog post.  You can also see my card on the Magenta Blog here

In my previous post, which you can see here, I created a card using alcohol inks and alcohol lift ink.
I covered a piece of Dura-Lar acetate with alcohol inks, then used alcohol lift ink to stamp and lift the ink from the acetate panel.
I then stamped the image onto a piece of white cardstock.  That’s the piece I’m working with today.
The rest of this card came together very quickly.  I trimmed the stamped image to 4” x 5 ¼”, then placed it in my stamp positioner to stamp the image with VersaFine Blue Lagoon ink.
I used a blending brush to apply Mermaid Lagoon Distress ink around the outer edges.  To add a bit more interest, I splattered some Iuile Silver watercolor paint over the image.  I love the Iuile watercolors, and the silver paint really sparkles. I mounted the panel on a piece of dark blue cardstock and then mounted them onto an A2 card.  To finish I added clear rhinestones to the center of each “ornament”.

This card was super simple, and very quick to make.  I wish you could see it in person because the silver paint and the rhinestones really make it sparkle.

Thanks for visiting my blog today.

Magenta Super Saturday - Fun with Alcohol Ink

Welcome back to my blog and Magenta Super Saturday.   Today I’m playing with alcohol ink and Alcohol Lift Ink.  You can also see my card on the Magenta Blog here.

I started by covering a piece of Dura-lar clear acetate with Laguna, Glacier, Mojito and Amethyst colors of alcohol ink.  I only used a couple of drops of blending solution to help move the inks around.

I was going for the tiny dots of color so there would be a lot of texture in the finished piece.

After I covered the entire piece and the ink was dry, I placed it in my stamp positioner.  I inked up the Mandala Ornaments stamp with Alcohol Lift ink and then stamped the acetate.  If you haven’t used Alcohol Lift ink, this product “lifts” the alcohol ink from a smooth, plastic surface like Yupo, vellum or acetate.  The ink remains on the stamp and you can then stamp on cardstock.

I removed the acetate piece from the stamp positioner, inserted a piece of white cardstock, then stamped the image.  The stamping picks up all the color variations of the alcohol ink which I love.
Next, I used a paper towel to “lift” the stamped image on the acetate.  I very lightly blotted the alcohol ink with a wadded up paper towel, rotating the paper towel before moving to the next section.  The stamped image will begin to emerge and since I stamped on clear acetate, I’ll be able to place the final image over another piece of cardstock to enhance the stamped image.  When the ink is still wet you want to be careful not to rub the image because that will smear the ink and you will lose the crispness of the image.  You can also return the acetate to the stamp positioner and stamp again with the Alcohol Lift ink to remove more of the alcohol ink (and you can also stamp again over the previous cardstock stamping.)
When complete, I trimmed the acetate image to 3 ¾” x 5” and also trimmed a piece of white glitter paper to the same size.  In real life, the glitter paper under the acetate really sparkles.  Unfortunately, it was very hard to photograph.  I put tiny drops of glue in each corner of the glitter paper and placed the acetate on top, then set it aside to dry.  I adhered this to a piece of dark purple cardstock, then adhered it to the front of an A2 card.

In my next post I'll show you how I finished the image I stamped on cardstock.

Thanks for visiting my blog today.
