Christmas in June

Welcome back to my blog and Magenta Super Saturday.  I’m trying to get a head start on my Christmas cards.  Today I’m using a panel that I created in a previous blog post.  You can also see my card on the Magenta Blog here

In my previous post, which you can see here, I created a card using alcohol inks and alcohol lift ink.
I covered a piece of Dura-Lar acetate with alcohol inks, then used alcohol lift ink to stamp and lift the ink from the acetate panel.
I then stamped the image onto a piece of white cardstock.  That’s the piece I’m working with today.
The rest of this card came together very quickly.  I trimmed the stamped image to 4” x 5 ¼”, then placed it in my stamp positioner to stamp the image with VersaFine Blue Lagoon ink.
I used a blending brush to apply Mermaid Lagoon Distress ink around the outer edges.  To add a bit more interest, I splattered some Iuile Silver watercolor paint over the image.  I love the Iuile watercolors, and the silver paint really sparkles. I mounted the panel on a piece of dark blue cardstock and then mounted them onto an A2 card.  To finish I added clear rhinestones to the center of each “ornament”.

This card was super simple, and very quick to make.  I wish you could see it in person because the silver paint and the rhinestones really make it sparkle.

Thanks for visiting my blog today.

Layered Flowers

Welcome back to my blog and Magenta Super Saturday.  I’ve had to make several sympathy cards in the last month, so I thought I’d share this one with you today.

I think any sentiment would work on this card and the technique is so much fun.  You color the flowers on one stamped image, then cut them out to adhere to a second stamped image. You can also see my card on the Magenta blog here.
To begin I used my MISTI to stamp the floral image.  I stamped it two times on pieces of 4” x 5 ¼” white cardstock.  Using a blender brush and some Distress Shaded Lilac ink, I lightly blended color over the flowers on both pieces.  It’s okay to go outside the lines on the one that will be your finished image as it adds some shading on the card, just use a light hand.  Next, I used colored pencils to color the flowers on the one piece.  On the other piece I used colored pencils on the leaves and berries.  I returned both pieces to my MISTI and restamped them with VersaMark ink, then embossed with white embossing powder.
Next, I used my MISTI to stamp the sentiment in with VersaFine Majestic Blue ink on the piece with the colored leaves.  I adhered the panel to a piece of dark blue cardstock, then adhered them to an A2 card.   Finally, I cut out the flowers I had colored and used a few foam dots to adhere them on top of the flowers on card front.  I added a few gems for an additional bit of interest.

Super Saturday with Pam – Floral Encouragement

Welcome back to Super Saturday. I needed to make some encouragement cards and this sentiment from Magenta has always been one of my favorites.  You can also see my card on the Magenta blog here
I started by using my MISTI to stamp the Sketch Blossom on a piece of white cardstock with VersaFine Black Onyx ink.  Without moving the stamp, I rotated the paper and stamped again.  I repeated this process again so I had a total of three stamped images for each card.
I colored the images with Prismacolor pencils.  I used yellow and oranges for the flowers on one card and pinks and reds for the petals on the other card.
I wanted to re-stamp and emboss over the original image to define the lines of the flower.  I used an anti-static powder tool on the images because the embossing powder will sometimes stick to the colored pencil.  I returned the cardstock to the MISTI the stamped each image with VersaMark ink.  I embossed with gold embossing powder on the yellow flowers and silver embossing powder on the red flowers, then used detail scissors to cut out the images.
For the background I stamped the sentiment on a piece of white cardstock with Sepia VersaFine ink then embossed with clear embossing powder.
I placed a mask over the sentiment then lightly splattered with yellow, orange and gold watercolor paints.  I used pink, red and silver watercolor paints for the background for the red flowers. I let both pieces dry well.
I adhered the yellow background to a piece of yellow cardstock, then adhered it to a white A2 card.  After cutting out the flowers with detail scissors, I arranged them onto the background.  I used foam tape to adhere them to the front of the card.  Since the flowers extended over the edge of the yellow card, I trimmed them with scissors but I forgot to take a picture of that step.
For the second card I used a piece of dark pink cardstock and arranged the flowers so they fit within the edges of the card.

Rediscovering Zig Cleancolor Watercolor Brush Pens

Welcome back to Magenta Super Saturday.  You can also see my card from today’s post on the Magenta blog here.

I love my Zig Cleancolor Watercolor brush pens however I admit that I struggle with getting the shading that I want.  Recently I saw a post by Kelly Latevola that inspired me to try her technique for shading and I was so happy with the results.  You can see her blogpost here.
To create this card, I stamped the 3 Poinsettias – 3 Flowers stamp on a piece of Neenah Solar White 110lb cardstock with Gina Kay Amalgam ink.

I used Kelly’s technique to color the image with my Zig brush pens.  I applied a Sugar Almond Pink from the middle of the petal to the outer end.

Next I used a darker color on very end of the petal.  I used a different dark pink on each of the flowers – Peach Pink, Pink or Dark Pink.  I applied a very small amount of water with a fine point brush in the center and pulled it toward the color – instant blending!
I had some help with this card.  My sweet boy Angus likes to keep me company.
I used the same process for the other flowers.  Where petals overlapped, I waited for the intersecting piece to dry before painting the other petal to avoid any color bleeding.  I used May Green on the tendrils and the dots around the flowers and Red on the very center of the flower.

After the flowers were dry, I made a mask from the stamp and placed it over the colored image.  Next, I splattered gold paint over the open areas.  I stamped the sentiment in the lower right corner with VersaFine Black Onyx ink, then embossed with clear embossing powder.  I cut the image down, adhered it to a piece of light green cardstock, then adhered it to a white A2 card.

I hope you give this technique for the Zig markers a try.  Thanks for visiting my blog today!
