Merry Christmas!

Welcome back to my blog.  I know this is a busy time of year but I hope you have had some time for fun, also.  The Magenta Design Team has a treat for you today.  Everyone collaborated on a joint post of Christmas cards which you can see here.  

For the card I contributed to the post, I used the Magenta Poinsettia Border stamp.  I this is one of my favorite stamps from their 2018 release.  

I cut a piece of Kraft cardstock to 4” x 5 ¼” and placed it in my MISTI.  I positioned the stamp so it was aligned near the top of the cardstock, then stamped with VersaFine Toffee ink.  I rotated the cardstock 180 degrees and stamped along the bottom edge of the cardstock.  I left my stamp in my MISTI as I planned to restamp the images after I finished my coloring.  

Next I colored the images with Prismacolor pencils.  When the coloring was complete I put the cardstock back in my MISTI and used an anti-static tool over both images.  I restamped both borders using VersaMark ink and then embossed with detail gold embossing powder.  I stamped the sentiment with VersaMark ink and then embossed with Judikins Cherry Twinkle embossing powder.  I layered the image over a piece of green cardstock and then to an A2 card. 

I stamped several images of the Poinsettia Border on both Kraft and white cardstock and then used them on different cards.  I followed the same technique as above – stamp, color with Prismacolor pencils, then restamp and emboss.

For this card I stamped on Kraft cardstock, colored the image then restamped with VersaFine Clair Green Oasis ink.  I embossed with clear embossing powder.  I used the My Favorite Things Vertical Stitched Strips to cut the panel.  Unfortunately, I found out after I completed my cards that this die set has been discontinued but you can just trim the panel to size with a paper trimmer.  I adhered a piece of fun foam to the back to provide some added dimension to the finished card. 

I stamped “Peace, Love, Joy” with VersaMark on a piece of green cardstock, then embossed with detail gold embossing powder. I adhered the green cardstock to an A2 card and then adhered the stamped image to the green cardstock. 

I created this card the same way, but used a sentiment from Hero Arts Merry Christmas Messages, CL722.

For my last card I stamped on white cardstock and after coloring I restamped with VersaMark and embossed with detail gold embossing powder.  I cut two panels – one with the Poinsettia Border and another for the sentiment.  Rather than using fun foam, I cut strips of gold metallic paper slightly larger than both strips and adhered the white strips on top.  I adhered both pieces to a piece of green cardstock that I had already adhered to an A2 card. 

I really am a big fan of this stamp.  I think it could also be colored with a variety of colors so it could work for year round cards.

Magenta Super Saturday - Doodled Poinsettia

Welcome back to my blog.  I have a fun card for “Super Saturday with Pam” which you can also see on the Magenta blog here.  Today I made a card that features one of my favorite Magenta holiday stamps, the Doodled Poinsettia.  It was designed a couple of years ago by my good friend and fellow Magenta design team member, Dianne Johnson. 

I stamped the “Doodled Poinsettia” on a piece of Neenah white cardstock using VersaMark and then embossed it with gold detail embossing powder.  Next, I colored it with Tombow markers 703,757, and 847.  I started with the lighter color in the center moving out to the darker colors at the outer edges.  After the markers dried, I colored over the poinsettia with a Wink of Stella pen for some added shimmer.  I used a 3” circle die to cut out the image.  I also cut a 3 ¼” circle from gold metallic cardstock, then placed the poinsettia on top. 

I stamped “Peace, Love, Joy” with VersaFine Clair Green Oasis ink then embossed with clear embossing powder on a 4” x 5 ½” piece of Neenah white cardstock.  I created a mask of the sentiment by stamping on a Post-it note and cutting it out.  I placed the mask over the stamped sentiment and then splattered red and gold paint on it.  

Before it dried I covered the panel with Iridescent Sparkle embossing powder and heat set it.  You must do this right away for the embossing powder to stick but it adds so much sparkle to the front of the card.  You can really see the sparkle in person but unfortunately it doesn't photograph as well.

For the embellishment in the center I stamped “Joy” on a piece of clear shrink plastic with green Stazon ink, cut it out and then heated with a heat gun to shrink it.  You want to cut as closely to the stamped image as possible, however on clear plastic the background disappears once you put the embellishment on the card.

To assemble the card, I adhered a piece of 4 ¼” x 5 ½” green textured cardstock to the front of an A2 card.  I wrapped some gold twine to the bottom of the white panel and adhered that to the front of the green panel.  I adhered the poinsettia to a 3” circle of fun foam and adhered it to the card.  I used a couple of glue dots to adhere the Joy embellishment in the center of the poinsettia.  Then I added a few jewels for a bit more bling.

Magenta Super Saturday - Peaceful Pumpkins

Welcome back to my blog.  I have another “Super Saturday with Pam” post appearing on the Magenta blog which you can see here.  For this week’s card I’m pairing the new “Peace” stamp with “Autumn Squash”, a stamp Magenta first released in 2008.

I stamped and embossed “Autumn Squash” on the smooth side of a piece of watercolor paper using VersaMark and gold embossing powder.  

I used distress inks to watercolor the image. To add some shine to the finished image, I mixed a small amount of Pearl Perfect Pearls in the water before I started painting.  I started with the sky using Tumbled Glass, and then added small amounts of Broken China and Chipped Sapphire.  While the sky section dried, I painted the ground area using Twisted Citron and then small amounts of Mowed Lawn and Forest Moss.  I let the piece dry completely and then started on the squash.  They looked like pumpkins to me so that’s how I painted them.  I started with Dried Marigold then added small amounts of Ripe Persimmon and Barn Door.  I waited for the sky and ground to be dry before I painted to pumpkins to lessen the chance that some of the orange color would bleed into the sky.  

I had some help from one of my furry companions.  This is Finn and he likes to supervise my work. 

After the stamped image was dry, I used my detail scissors to trim along the outer lines.  I cut a piece of Stardream Lapis cardstock to 4” x 3 ¼”, ran the edges across a VersaMark ink pad and then embossed with detail gold embossing powder.   I stamped and embossed “Peace” using VersaMark and detail gold embossing powder on a piece of Curious Metallics Mandarin cardstock that I had cut to 5 ½” x 4 ¼”.  I adhered it to the front of an A2 card.  I adhered the lapis cardstock to the top portion of the card.  I covered the back of the stamped image with foam tape and then adhered it in the center of the lapis piece.  To finish, I used a Wink of Stella pen on just the pumpkins to add some extra shimmer. 

I also used this stamp for a thank you card for some friends.  Every year right before Halloween, they have a pumpkin carving party and this stamp seemed perfect for the thank you card I wanted to send them.  I used Prismacolor pencils and the medium size “Thank you” calligraphy stamp for this card.

Magenta Super Saturday with Pam and Dianne - Artist Training Coins

Welcome back to Magenta Super Saturday.  Today I’m doing another joint post with Dianne Johnson featuring Magenta’s new ATCoins.  You can see our post on the Magenta blog here and you can see all of Dianne’s coins on her blog here.

I continued my Christmas theme on my next two coins.

I started by sprinkling Lagoon, Raspberry, Turquoise and Jade Nuance powder on the smooth side of watercolor paper and the spraying with water.  I purposely left some white spaces.

When the paper was dry, I positioned “Peace, Love and Joy”, a stamp from Magenta’s new stamp collection, on an area of the paper that contained some white space.  Before stamping I used anti-static powder over the surface of the paper.  Then I stamped with VersaMark and embossed with Judikins Detail Gold embossing powder.  I die cut the image with a 2 ½” circle die.  I ran the edge of the coin across the VersaMark ink pad and then embossed the edge with gold embossing powder.

I stamped the coin stamp on a separate piece of cardstock and die cut it with a 2 ½” die.  I colored with Prismacolor pencils and then outlined the flowers and stems with a gel pen.  I adhered it to the back of the Nuance piece after the gel pen dried.

For my next coin, I used “Joy”, another beautiful Sally Penley calligraphy stamp from Magenta’s new collection.  

I used my MISTI to stamp it on a piece of white cardstock with VersaFine Toffee ink.  When it was thoroughly dry, I highlighted the white space around the sentiment with Tumbled Glass Distress ink.  

I positioned the stencil above the sentiment then applied Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn Distress ink.  

I moved the stencil to the bottom of the sentiment and colored again.  

After the ink dried I used green Prismacolor pencils to add additional colors to the leaves.  I used Peacock Green (PC907), Grass Green (PC909) and Apple Green (PC912).  I also used Crimson Red (PC924) on the berries.  I used anti-static powder on the image and then put in back in my MISTI.  I re-stamped “Joy” over the original image with VersaMark and embossed with Wow Metallic Copper embossing powder.  (I embossed after inking the stencils, so ink wouldn’t distort the sparkle of the embossing powder.)  I die cut the image using a 2 ½” circle die. I also highlighted the edge of the coin by running the edge across the VersaMark pad and then embossing with the copper embossing powder.

For the back of the coin, I stamped the ATCoin stamp on a piece of white cardstock.  I colored with Prismacolor pencils and highlighted with a gel pen.  I die cut it with 2 ½” die and adhered it to the stenciled piece.  For the last step, I used Christmas Red Stickled on the berries around "Joy" which added some sparkle.

The coins work well for almost any image, large or small.  You don’t have to put the whole image on the coin; they look great with a portion of the image on the coin, too.  I hope you will give it a try and consider joining the swap.

Magenta Super Saturday with Pam and Dianne - Artist Trading Coins

Hi everyone.  Welcome back to my blog. 

Magenta has introduced something new to the world of Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) and it’s an Artist Trading Coin.  It's a 2 ½” circle and the stamp shown above fits perfectly on the back.  Magenta is also organizing an ATCoin swap.  The idea is that you will create four different coins.  Magenta will assign “partners” so we can mail the ATCoins to each other.  You can read more about the swap and sign up here.

Today I’m am so excited to be doing a joint post with Dianne Johnson to premier the first round of coins.  You can see all four of our coins on the Magenta blog here.  You can see Dianne’s step by step process for creating her first two coins (as well as her other amazing cards!) on her blog here.  We’ll be doing another joint post next Saturday.

I had lots of fun making these new coins.  You don’t need to have a theme but since the holidays are right around the corner, I decided on a Christmas theme.  I really like the Christmas stamps and stencils in the new Magenta collection so I thought it would be fun to use them on the coins.

For my first coin I used a stamp positioner to stamp the Floral Mandala on a piece of white cardstock with VersaFine Toffee ink then colored with various red and green Prismacolor pencils.  I put the cardstock back in the stamp positioner and restamped the Mandala with VersaMark ink, then embossed with detail gold embossing powder.  

I die cut the image with a 2” circle die.  Next, I die cut a piece of textured gold card stock with a 2 ½” die, then cut the center of the gold cardstock with a 2” die to form a frame for the Mandala.  (I created a frame rather than just layering them to reduce bulk for mailing.)  I stamped the ATCoin on a piece of white cardstock, then colored with Prismacolor pencils. For a bit of sparkle, I outlined the flowers and stems with a clear gel pen.  I cut out the circle with a 2 ½ “ die, put the Mandala in the gold frame and adhered them to the back of the coin.  I added a dot of glossy accents to the center of the Mandala. 

For my second coin I stamped the “3 Poinsettias” twice with VersaMark and embossed with gold embossing powder.  I colored each flower with red and yellow Pearlescent Pan Pastels.  I stamped and embossed “Season’s Greetings” with gold embossing powder on a piece of white cardstock, then used a 2 ½” circle die to cut it out with the greeting toward the bottom of the coin.  I colored the circle with light blue and purple Pearlescent Pan Pastels.

I cut out the smallest poinsettias (the one on the bottom left of the stamp) then positioned the flowers on the coin.  When I liked the arrangement, adhered them with some Gina K Connect Glue.  When the glue was dry I trimmed them to the shape of the circle.  I created another coin back and adhered it to the back.  I added some Nuvo White Blizzard Glitter Drops to the flower centers.

These are the ATCoins for the back.
