Magenta Super Saturday - O Christmas Tree!

Welcome back to my blog and Magenta Super Saturday.  Today I am using the new Christmas tree stamp from Magenta’s 2021 Holiday release.  You can also see my card on the Magenta blog here

I placed the stamp in my stamp positioner, stamped with VersaFine Black Onyx ink on a piece of white cardstock, then used Prismacolor colored pencils to color the image.  I returned the stamp to my stamp positioner, stamped with VersaMark ink, and embossed with Judikins Pine Twinkle embossing powder.  I shaded the outer edges around the tree with Distress Tumbled Glass Oxide ink.
To create the frame, I cut a piece of red linen cardstock and two pieces of 65# white cardstock to 4” x 5 ¼”.  I stacked all three pieces together and cut them with the Penny Black Stitched Frames frame die.  This process ensures all three pieces are cut in the same position.  If the die doesn’t cut through all three pieces of cardstock, lift off the cut layer then just fit the die back into imprint on the next layer, and die cut again.  Glue all three layers together then trim down the stamped image to fit behind the frame.  Glue the frame to the stamped image, then to the front of an A2 card.  To finish I added some Nuvo White Blizzard glitter drops in the background for a bit more sparkle.

Magenta Super Saturday - Spring Wild Flowers

Welcome back to my blog and Magenta Super Saturday.  Today I used colored pencils on vellum.  You can also see my card on the Magenta blog here.

I started by using my MISTI to stamp the “Wild Flowers” on a piece of lightweight vellum.

I used VersaFine Black Onyx ink and allowed it to dry thoroughly before moving to the next step.I used my Caran d’Ache Luminance colored pencils to color on the back side of the stamped image.
Coloring on the back of the stamped image creates a soft look but the color still shows through the lightweight vellum.  I returned the stamped image to my stamp positioner in the same position, stamped with VersaMark ink and embossed with gold embossing powder.  To prevent warping (or even melting) your vellum when embossing, be sure to let your heat gun warm up for about 30 seconds and then keep it moving back and forth across the image until all the embossing powder has melted.
I cut two pieces of lightweight (65#) card stock to measure 4 1/8’ x 5 ¼” then adhered them together.  I cut another piece of medium weight (80#) to the same measurement.  I stacked the three pieces together and cut a circle using a decorative circle die.  If the die doesn’t cut through all three layers, remove the top layer of cardstock and the next layer will have the imprint of the die cut.  Use this imprint to reposition the die and cut again.
I stamped the “Happy birthday” on the piece of 80# cardstock.
I adhered the vellum image to the back of the die cut image and cut away the excess vellum.  Next, I adhered the 65# pieces to the back – this will create some dimension for the final card and elevates the vellum a bit from the blue backing I added in the next step.
For the final backing I used a piece of watercolor from my stash of background papers.  I had used various Nuance shades of blue and I thought this would help the stamped image stand out a bit more.  After I adhered the blue background to the back of the image, I adhered everything to the front of a white A2 card.

Thanks for visiting my blog today.

Magenta Super Saturday - An Irish Blessings Quote

Welcome back to my blog and Magenta Super Saturday.  I love this Irish Blessings quote and since my post is close to St. Patrick’s Day, it seemed like a good time to use it on a card.  You can also see my cards on the Magenta blog here

Start by stamping “Lonely Landscape” on a piece of white cardstock.  I’ve had this stamp for a long time so first I had to remove it from the wood block so I could use it in my stamping tool, which I needed to use for this technique.

I colored the image with my Pan Pastels.  You could just as easily use color pencils, chalks, markers or another medium but I haven’t used my Pan Pastels in a while and thought it would be fun to work with them again.  If you aren’t familiar with Pan Pastels, they are pastel powders in a cake form that you apply with sponges or other tools.  The colors are very rich and they are fun to work with.  After I finished coloring, I returned the image to my stamping tool, stamped with VersaMark ink, then embossed with gold embossing powder.  I cut out the image around the outer lines, then also cut out a piece of fun foam that was slightly smaller and adhered it to the back of the image.  I adhered this to a scrap piece of background paper I had previously created with green Nuance powders.
Next, I stamped “Buds & Flourishes” randomly around the edges of a piece of Kraft cardstock with VersaMark ink.  I lightly applied gold Pan Pastel powder on top of the ink using a tapping motion, rather than a rubbing motion.  If you rub the powder into the stamped image, the ink will smear, but if you tap the powder on, you are pushing the powder into the ink without smearing it.  I positioned the “Irish Quote” sentiment on the right side and stamped with VersaFine Black Onyx ink.  Next, I trimmed the image to 3 ½” by 4 ¾” and then cut a slightly larger piece of dark green cardstock.
For the final step, I stamped “Buds & Flourishes” randomly around the edges of an A2 card and then tapped gold Pan Pastel on top.  Before assembling the card, I sprayed each stamped image with a fixative to prevent the Pan Pastels from smearing.  I set the images aside to dry, which didn’t take long, then assembled the card.

Magenta Super Super Saturday - Happy New Year

Welcome back to my blog.  I hope your New Year is off to a great start.

I decided to make a set of tri-fold cards today using a set of Magenta puzzle stamps.  The Garden Flower Tile set has four different square stamps that work together beautifully but can also be used individually.  These cards will work well for any occasion but I plan to send them to friends just to say “hello.”  You can also my cards on the Magenta page here.

I positioned each of the stamps in my stamping tool and stamped them on a piece of desert storm cardstock with VersaFine Olympia Green ink.  I lined them up so there would be enough space to cut them out after I finished coloring them.

Next, I colored the images with Prismacolor pencils (There’s a list of the colors I used below.)   I used my powder tool generously over all the images and returned the piece to my stamp positioner.  I restamped the images using VersaMark ink and then embossed with clear embossing powder.  I cut out all the images which created a 2” square.  Then I matted them on two slightly larger squares of cardstock. The first layers was a piece of embossed velvet that measured 2 ¼” square and the bottom layer of the square was 2 ½’ square.  I used a piece of double sided gold paper for the bottom layer because after the card is assembled, a small portion of the back of the square will be visible.

For the card bases I cut four pieces of desert storm cardstock to 4 1/2" x 11", then scored each piece at 1 3/4" and 7 1/8" and folded on the score lines to make tri-fold cards.

I stamped the Swirly Leaves stamp repeatedly on the card front with VersaMark ink and then embossed with Iridescent Sparkle embossing powder.

To complete the cards I adhered the square stamped image to the front of the cards as shown in the picture above.  I added two accent strips of the same cardstock I used to mat the stamped image.

Thanks for visiting my blog today.  I wish you the very best in the coming year.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year.  I hope the coming year brings you peace, happiness and good health.  I decided to use a peace sentiment for my card as I hope that our world returns to normal in 2021.  My card is part of a collaborative blog post by the Magenta Design Team.  You can see all of their beautiful cards here.

I lined up the Egret in Reeds and Peace stamp in my stamping tool, then stamped the two images using VersaFine Black Onyx ink on a piece of 110# white cardstock.  I love to stamp with this ink because it stamps a very crisp image but you can also emboss it.  After stamping, I embossed both images with clear embossing powder.
After embossing, I blended Distress Oxide Tumbled Glass and Mermaid Lagoon on the image with a blending brush.  I left some areas lighter than others to accent the bird and the sentiment.
To finish off, I trimmed down to the piece to approximately 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" with a deckle trimmer.  Then I blended Distress Oxide Chipped Sapphire around the edges.  I cut a piece of fun foam for the back of the image and adhered it to the front of a white, A2 card.

Magenta Super Saturday - Stenciled Leaves

Welcome back to Magenta Super Saturday and thank you for visiting my blog today.

I’m playing with shaving cream again and I thought it would be fun to try this technique with stencils.  A few weeks ago, I made some background papers with shaving cream and Magenta Nuance.  You can see that post here.  I thought it might be fun to try using stencils with the shaving cream in order to isolate the swirly patterns within the designs of a stencil.

This time I used alcohol inks instead of Nuance.  (I think you could also mix some Nuance powders with a small amount of water to make the colors very concentrated, then use them in the same way I used the alcohol inks.) You can also see my card on the Magenta blog here.

I sprayed the shaving cream onto a disposable baking sheet, then added drops of Sunset Orange, Sunset Yellow, Valencia and Terra Cotta alcohol inks.  I used a palette knife to mix the colors a bit then gently laid the Sweet Leaves stencil on the top of the shaving cream.

I placed a piece of 80# Neenah white cardstock on top of the stencil then gently pushed both pieces down into the shaving cream - I wanted to be sure the cream came in contact with all the open spots on the stencil.  The paper absorbs the color very quickly. I slowly lifted both the paper and stencil from the shaving cream and laid them on my work surface.  I gently lifted the stencil from the paper, used a straight edged tool to remove the shaving cream from the card stock, then wiped the cardstock with a dry towel to remove any remaining shaving cream.  (If there are any areas that don’t have shaving cream on them when you lift the paper and stencil from the shaving cream, just use your palette knife to scoop up some cream and place it on the empty spot. Let it sit for a bit then remove all the shaving cream.)

It took me a few tries to come up with the process I liked.  I realized that the most vibrant colors came from the first use of the shaving cream after the ink had been applied.  Although you can re-use the shaving cream many, many times, the colors start blending and the colors get softer and lighter.  I also discovered that I wanted some color in my background.  On the final piece for today I blended some Scattered Straw and Dried Marigold Distress ink over the cardstock, let it dry, then proceeded with the shaving cream process.

After my pieces were dry, I decided I wanted to emphasize the leaves just a little bit more.  I lined up the stencil over the leaves then used a dauber brush to apply Distress Abandoned Coral around the edges of the leaves.

O
n another piece, I put one of the stenciled pieces back into the shaving cream after the colors had lightened and blended some.  This also gave an interesting result.

I stamped the sentiment onto a piece of white cardstock with VersaFine Sepia ink and embossed with clear embossing powder.  I used a bit of Scattered Straw and Dried Marigold Distress ink around the edges of the sentiment.  I matted the card front and sentiment on pieces of reddish-brown cardstock.  After the card was assembled, I added a few sequins for a bit of sparkle.

Many Mandalas

Welcome back to Super Saturday.  I hope your New Year is off to a great start.   I need to make several birthday cards this month, so I decided to use pieces of the Flower Mandala Background stamp as the focal point on the card.  My card is also part of a Magenta blog post which you can see here.

Using my MISTI I stamped the image on the smooth side of watercolor paper, then embossed with gold or silver embossing powder.

I taped the paper to my work surface then I sprinkled nuance over the top.  I sprayed with water and then let it sit until dry.  (I used Bright Yellow, Orange and Red on one piece; Aquamarine, Lagoon and Violet on another piece.)
I also stamped the image on several different pieces of cardstock - white, tan, gray and blue, with VersaFine Smokey Gray ink.  I colored the images with Prismacolor pencils.
I returned the cardstock to my MISTI, generously used the powder tool all over the image and then restamped the image with VersaMark ink.  I embossed with gold or silver embossing powder, depending on the color of the cardstock.
I cut the mandala into 1 7/8” strips and I cut a 2 1/8” wide piece of pearlized purple background paper.  I placed that on a piece of 3 ¾” x 5” piece of white cardstock to determine where to stamp my sentiment.  I stamped the sentiment, then embossed with silver embossing powder.  I used a blending brush to add a bit of Tumbled Glass and Wilted Violet Distress ink.  I adhered the Mandala strip to the piece of background paper, then adhered them to the left side of the white cardstock.  This piece was adhered to another piece of pearlized purple paper then to the front of an A2 card.  I finished it off with a few gems.
I ended up with a bunch of images that I can use to create a variety of cards.

I hope you have a wonderful 2020, with lots of opportunities for crafting and creating.  Thanks for visiting my blog today.
