Magenta Super Saturday - Valentine Hearts

 

Welcome back to my blog.  It’s time to start making Valentine’s cards at my house and today I have a very quick an easy one.  

It features two of my favorite Magenta stamps, the Heart Tapestry and “Love Makes the World Go Round.”  You can also see my card on the Magenta blog here. 

I cut a piece of 110# white cardstock to measure 4” x 5 ½”.  I placed it in my MISTI, then positioned the heart stamp in the upper left corner of the cardstock.  I inked the stamp with two shades of VersaFine Claire pigment ink and stamped the image. 

I slid the cardstock up (without moving the stamp) about 2 1/8”.  I cleaned the stamp, reinked and stamped the second heart image.

I repeated the same process a third time, then embossed the images with clear embossing powder.  I stamped the sentiment and embossed it with clear embossing powder also. 

I had originally planned something more elaborate for this card like ink smooshing with Distress Inks or trimming the strip of hearts and matting it on a strip of gold cardstock and then onto another piece of cardstock with the sentiment stamped on it.  However, after I finished the embossing, I decided that I liked the simplicity of the card and decided to stop.  I matted the card onto a piece of So Silk Beauty Pink cardstock, then onto the front of an A2 card.  I added a few gems for a bit of sparkle.  

I may still try my other ideas for this design because I love both of the stamps.  I hope you will try them too.

Merry Christmas!  My card today is part of a Magenta post from all the Design Team members.  You can check out all their beautiful Christmas cards here.  Magenta will also be doing a group post for New Year’s Day.

I love the “Penguin’s Gift” stamp.  I came across this one a few days ago while going through a box of stamps.  It’s one of my favorite Christmas stamps so I decided to share it with you today.  I bought this one so long ago that it was mounted on wood.  My first order of business was to remove the stamp from the wood block so I could use my MISTI.

I stamped the penguin in VersaFine Smokey Gray ink on white cardstock that was cut to 2 ¼” x 3 3/8”.  I also stamped the penguin again on a piece of scrap cardstock.  

I used Prismacolor pencils to color the penguin.  I also used a light gray pencil to add just a bit of “ground”, so it looks like the penguin is standing on something, rather than floating in the air - I did that after I took this picture but you can see it on the final card.  😊  Next, I colored the gift on the piece stamped on scrap paper.    I added some extra detail on the gift then went over the lines with a clear sparkly gel pen. (I’ve listed the Prismacolor pencils I used below.)  I cut out the gift and put foam tape on the back.

I returned the cardstock to my MISTI and stamped again with VersaMark and embossed with clear embossing powder.  I stamped the sentiment on a piece of white cardstock that was cut to 2 ¼” x 3 3/8” using VersaFine Smokey Gray ink.  After it dried, I stamped again with VersaMark and embossed with clear embossing powder.

I made a mask for my penguin and placed it over the top of the stamped image.  

Using blending brushes I lightly applied Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean and Wilted Violet Distress inks to both images.  

The blending brushes make it easy to apply a very light amount of ink. 

To finish up the card, I removed the mask from the penguin and adhered the gift I had cut out over the top of the gift on the stamped image.  Next I mounted both images on a piece of So Silk Fashion Purple cardstock.  I adhered a piece of glittering cardstock to the front of an A2 card, then adhered both images to the card.  I used a T-ruler to line up both pieces.  I added a few sequins and then put a drop of Nuvo White Blizzard drops on the center of each sequin.

Super Saturday with Pam – Floral Encouragement

Welcome back to Super Saturday. I needed to make some encouragement cards and this sentiment from Magenta has always been one of my favorites.  You can also see my card on the Magenta blog here. 

I started by using my MISTI to stamp the Sketch Blossom on a piece of white cardstock with VersaFine Black Onyx ink.  Without moving the stamp, I rotated the paper and stamped again.  I repeated this process again so I had a total of three stamped images for each card. 

I colored the images with Prismacolor pencils.  I used yellow and oranges for the flowers on one card and pinks and reds for the petals on the other card.  

I wanted to re-stamp and emboss over the original image to define the lines of the flower.  I used an anti-static powder tool on the images because the embossing powder will sometimes stick to the colored pencil.  I returned the cardstock to the MISTI the stamped each image with VersaMark ink.  I embossed with gold embossing powder on the yellow flowers and silver embossing powder on the red flowers, then used detail scissors to cut out the images.

For the background I stamped the sentiment on a piece of white cardstock with Sepia VersaFine ink then embossed with clear embossing powder. 

I placed a mask over the sentiment then lightly splattered with yellow, orange and gold watercolor paints.  I used pink, red and silver watercolor paints for the background for the red flowers. I let both pieces dry well.

I adhered the yellow background to a piece of yellow cardstock, then adhered it to a white A2 card.  After cutting out the flowers with detail scissors, I arranged them onto the background.  I used foam tape to adhere them to the front of the card.  Since the flowers extended over the edge of the yellow card, I trimmed them with scissors but I forgot to take a picture of that step.

For the second card I used a piece of dark pink cardstock and arranged the flowers so they fit within the edges of the card.

Welcome back to my blog.  I know this is a busy time of year but I hope you have had some time for fun, also.  The Magenta Design Team has a treat for you today.  Everyone collaborated on a joint post of Christmas cards which you can see here.  

For the card I contributed to the post, I used the Magenta Poinsettia Border stamp.  I this is one of my favorite stamps from their 2018 release.  

I cut a piece of Kraft cardstock to 4” x 5 ¼” and placed it in my MISTI.  I positioned the stamp so it was aligned near the top of the cardstock, then stamped with VersaFine Toffee ink.  I rotated the cardstock 180 degrees and stamped along the bottom edge of the cardstock.  I left my stamp in my MISTI as I planned to restamp the images after I finished my coloring.  

Next I colored the images with Prismacolor pencils.  When the coloring was complete I put the cardstock back in my MISTI and used an anti-static tool over both images.  I restamped both borders using VersaMark ink and then embossed with detail gold embossing powder.  I stamped the sentiment with VersaMark ink and then embossed with Judikins Cherry Twinkle embossing powder.  I layered the image over a piece of green cardstock and then to an A2 card. 

I stamped several images of the Poinsettia Border on both Kraft and white cardstock and then used them on different cards.  I followed the same technique as above – stamp, color with Prismacolor pencils, then restamp and emboss.

For this card I stamped on Kraft cardstock, colored the image then restamped with VersaFine Clair Green Oasis ink.  I embossed with clear embossing powder.  I used the My Favorite Things Vertical Stitched Strips to cut the panel.  Unfortunately, I found out after I completed my cards that this die set has been discontinued but you can just trim the panel to size with a paper trimmer.  I adhered a piece of fun foam to the back to provide some added dimension to the finished card. 

I stamped “Peace, Love, Joy” with VersaMark on a piece of green cardstock, then embossed with detail gold embossing powder. I adhered the green cardstock to an A2 card and then adhered the stamped image to the green cardstock. 

I created this card the same way, but used a sentiment from Hero Arts Merry Christmas Messages, CL722.

For my last card I stamped on white cardstock and after coloring I restamped with VersaMark and embossed with detail gold embossing powder.  I cut two panels – one with the Poinsettia Border and another for the sentiment.  Rather than using fun foam, I cut strips of gold metallic paper slightly larger than both strips and adhered the white strips on top.  I adhered both pieces to a piece of green cardstock that I had already adhered to an A2 card. 

I really am a big fan of this stamp.  I think it could also be colored with a variety of colors so it could work for year round cards.

Magenta Super Saturday with Pam

Hi everyone.  I’m back with a quick and easy card that features stamps from the new Magenta release.  I love the large and small Rosa Canina stamps!  They are so versatile and can be used with many different mediums.  My card also appears on the Magenta blog today and you can see it here.

This was actually the second card I made with this technique.  When I was making the first one, I completely forgot to take any pictures for the blog.  I needed a birthday card for a friend so made it again and remembered to take pictures this time.  I’ll post a picture of the first card at the end of this post.  

To begin, I cut a piece of white linen cardstock to 5 ¼” x 4” and placed it in my MISTI.  I stamped the Magenta Large Happy Birthday on the bottom center of the card with Charming Pink VersaFine Clair ink and then embossed it with clear embossing powder.  (I stamped the sentiment first to be sure to be sure I didn’t take up too much space on the card with the flower images.)

Next I created a mask by stamping the large Rosa Canina stamp on a Post-it Note and then cutting it out.  I aligned the large stamp in the center top of the card and allowed a small part of the top edge to hang off the top.  I stamped again with Charming Pink Versafine Clair Ink and then embossed with clear embossing powder.  

When the embossing powder was cool, I put the card back in my MISTI and placed the mask over the large flower image.  I positioned the small Rosa Canina on the left side of the masked image, stamped and embossed.  I repeated the image for the small flower on the right.  

I used an orange Prismacolor pencil for the flower stamens on all three images.  I adhered the card front to a piece of Sol Silk Beauty Pink paper cut to approximately 4 1/8” x 5 3/8” inches (just slightly smaller than an A2 card so that only a small amount of the white card is visible.)  I adhered both to a white A2 card and added a few gemstones for sparkle.

This is the first card I made with these two beautiful stamps.  I used VersaFine Blue Belle ink and the Magenta “Warm Thoughts” sentiment.

Magenta Super Saturday with Pam

This beautiful new extra-large Happy Birthday card is a great stamp for a quick card.  It has a great presence and stamps beautifully.  This card also appears on Magenta's blog today which you can find here.

To create this card, I used my MISTI to stamp the image on a piece of white cardstock cut to 4” x 5 ¼” with the Tsukineko "Spectrum" Kaleidacolor rainbow ink pad.  I cleaned the stamp (without moving in in the MISTI) and then re-inked it with VersaMark ink.  I stamped the image again and then embossed it with Judikins Iridescent Sparkle embossing powder.  Since VersaMark is clear, the multi-color from the Kaleidacolor rainbow pad shows through and the embossing powder really makes the sentiment sparkle. 

Next, I lightly flicked gold watercolor paint over the image.

When the paint was dry, I added strips of ¼” double sided tape to the top and bottom of the card panel, leaving the protective paper in place.  Then I added strips of 1/8” double sided tape to the top and bottom of the card panel, also leaving the protective paper in place.

I removed the first protective strip from the tape, placed the panel on a coffee filter and covered the tape with Elizabeth Craft Amethyst Microfine Glitter.  I used a large brush to remove the excess glitter and then burnished it with my finger to make it shine.  I repeated these steps for each strip of tape using green, royal blue and fuchsia glitter.  I chose those colors because they coordinated with the colors of the Spectrum ink pad. 

To finish off the card, I adhered the panel to a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” piece of gold soft finish card stock and then adhered this to the front of an A2 card. 

This was a quick and easy card and I hope you will give it a try.  Magenta also makes an extra large Thank you stamp (07.978.N) that will also work well with this technique as if almost fills the front of an A2 card.  Like the Happy Birthday, the Thank You stamp also features Sally Penley’s beautiful calligraphy.   There are links below to the stamps on Magenta’s web page.

Welcome back to Super Saturday!  I hope you will enjoy this fun card.  Even though there are several steps, it comes together very quickly.

For the stenciled layer I used a piece of textured white paper from Paper Accents.  The texture adds a bit more interest to the finished card.  I taped the Magenta Square Lace template (TM255) to the paper then used foam applicators to apply Wilted Violet and Mermaid Lagoon Distress inks over the template.  I overlapped the colors so they would blend.  I removed the stencil, cleaned it and then aligned it over the inked design and taped it down again.  I used a VersaMark ink cube to cover the Distress ink design.  I removed the stencil and then embossed it with Judikins Iridescent Sparkle embossing powder. Cut the image to 4 3/8” square.

On a separate piece of white textured paper, I used a MISTI to stamp the Sally Penley calligraphy medium sized Thank you (07.979.G) with Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink.  Without moving the stamp or the paper I cleaned the stamp and then stamped over the image with VersaMark ink, then embossed with Judikins Iridescent Sparkle embossing powder.  Cut this piece to 2 ¼” square.

 For the layer pieces, use a foam applicator to cover one piece of 2 3/8” square white cardstock and another piece of 4 ½” square white cardstock with Mermaid Lagoon Distress ink.  Cover a piece of 4 5/8” square cardstock with Wilted Violet Distress ink.   

Apply the Wilted Violet layer to the front of a 4 ¾” square notecard.  Next add the Mermaid Lagoon layer, followed by the stenciled white layer. 

Adhere the image with the sentiment to the Mermaid Lagoon square then adhere to the center front of the card using foam tape for dimension.

That’s all there is to it – the embossing powder adds lots of sparkle and fun to this quick card.  It would be very easy to make several of these at one time using different colors and sentiments.

Magenta Super Saturday with Pam

Hi everyone!  I’m so excited to be joining the “Super Saturday” group on the Magenta Blog.  I love the new Magenta collection that will be coming out very soon.  The card I’m sharing with you today features the “3 Poinsettias – 3 Flowers” (03.218.Q) and the medium “Thank You” (07.979.G) stamp that was designed by calligrapher Sally Penley.  Both of these stamps are from the new collection.  This beautiful poinsettia stamp is so versatile that I’m sure I’ll be using it all year!

I made the background using a variation of a technique that I saw on a Jennifer McGuire video. I used Distress Ink mini pads to cover a large acrylic block with splotches of color.  I sprayed it very liberally with water, then put the block, ink side down on the smooth side of a piece of Tim Holtz watercolor paper.  I pressed the block to move the ink around over the whole piece of paper, then put something heavy on top of the block and let it sit for a few minutes for the colors to sink into the paper.   When I lifted the block off the paper, I used a paper towel to wick up any of the ink drops I didn't want on the finished piece.  This technique is so much fun (and fast!) that I usually make several pieces to have on hand when I need them. 

This example uses Dried Marigold, Carved Pumpkin and Festive Berries Distress Inks.

You can vary the color pattern, and intensity of color on the background by the colors you choose, the way you apply the ink (randomly or in a pattern), the amount of water you use and amount of time you leave the block sitting on the paper.  To see more on this technique, check out the video on Jennifer McGuire’s website here.

For today's card I used a piece of background paper from my stash that had been created with Broken China, Tumbled Glass and Wilted Violet Distress Inks on Tim Holtz Watercolor paper.  I used the MISTI stamp positioner to stamp the Poinsettia image with VersaFine Smokey Gray ink.  When the ink was dry I colored in the flowers with Luminance colored pencils (Manganese Violet, Violet, White, Orange, White.)  I put the watercolor panel back in the stamp positioner in the same place.  Then I restamped the poinsettia image plus the “Thank you” sentiment with VersaMark ink, then embossed with Judikins Gold Detail embossing powder.
