Welcome back to my blog and Magenta Super Saturday.  Today I have a card that is very quick and easy which you can also see on the Magenta blog here. 

I pulled a piece of background paper from my stash.  This particular piece was made using shaving cream and Nuance.  You can see my post on how to make the paper here. 

I selected this piece because I liked the swirl design and I thought it would work well with the Dandelion Trio stamp.  I cut the background paper to 4 ¼” x 5 ½” and adhered it to the front of an A2 card.  You can certainly use any paper, or scrapbook paper; just experiment by holding your vellum over the background paper to see which one you like the best. 

I cut a piece of medium weight vellum to 4 ¼” x 5 ½” and liberally used my powder tool over the entire surface then placed it in my stamp positioner.  The Dandelion Trio stamp is a two-piece set and I positioned the piece with two dandelions on the left side of the vellum.  I positioned the sentiment on the right side of the vellum and stamped both images at the same time with VersaMark ink.  I embossed with Brutus Monroe Gilded Gold embossing powder.  When embossing on vellum it is important to pre-heat your embossing tool and to keep it moving over the surface of the paper to keep the paper from warping or melting while the embossing powder melts.

I applied VersaMark ink around all four sides of the stamped image and then embossed with more gold embossing powder.  You can do this step multiple times until you have the amount of gold around the edges that you like.

On the back of the vellum, I applied small drops of glue under the gold and under parts of the stamped image.  By putting the glue under the gold embossing powder, it won’t show through to the front of the vellum.  I adhered the vellum to the front of the card and then put a book on top of the card to weigh down the vellum until the glue dried.  For the final step I added a few gold gems.

Thanks for visiting my blog today.  I'm doing a special Wednesday post for Magenta today which you can also see here.

My grandson who will soon be twelve, recently took an on-line video editing class.  We started a YouTube channel called "Lady and the Stamp."  Isn't that a great name for a grandmother who loves to stamp?  We just posted our first video which features Magenta Nuance along with “Happy Birthday” and “Thank You” stamps. I've also seen this technique done with acrylic paints and ink refills, plus I think you could also use food coloring.  Magenta's Nuance colors are so versatile and there is such a wide variety of colors that I thought it would be fun to try it with this technique.  You can see the entire process in the video below.  If the video link doesn't work you can also see it here

You simply spray shaving cream onto a cookie sheet or other flat surface, sprinkle Nuance over the top, spritz with a bit of water and let it sit for a few minutes.  Then you run pieces of cardstock through the color to create a beautiful marbled effect on the paper. 

These papers make great background pieces.  It’s a very fun technique so I hope that you will give it a try and then let us know what you think.

Many Mandalas

Welcome back to Super Saturday.  I hope your New Year is off to a great start.   I need to make several birthday cards this month, so I decided to use pieces of the Flower Mandala Background stamp as the focal point on the card.  My card is also part of a Magenta blog post which you can see here.

Using my MISTI I stamped the image on the smooth side of watercolor paper, then embossed with gold or silver embossing powder.  

I taped the paper to my work surface then I sprinkled nuance over the top.  I sprayed with water and then let it sit until dry.  (I used Bright Yellow, Orange and Red on one piece; Aquamarine, Lagoon and Violet on another piece.)

I also stamped the image on several different pieces of cardstock - white, tan, gray and blue, with VersaFine Smokey Gray ink.  I colored the images with Prismacolor pencils.  

I returned the cardstock to my MISTI, generously used the powder tool all over the image and then restamped the image with VersaMark ink.  I embossed with gold or silver embossing powder, depending on the color of the cardstock.  

I cut the mandala into 1 7/8” strips and I cut a 2 1/8” wide piece of pearlized purple background paper.  I placed that on a piece of 3 ¾” x 5” piece of white cardstock to determine where to stamp my sentiment.  I stamped the sentiment, then embossed with silver embossing powder.  I used a blending brush to add a bit of Tumbled Glass and Wilted Violet Distress ink.  I adhered the Mandala strip to the piece of background paper, then adhered them to the left side of the white cardstock.  This piece was adhered to another piece of pearlized purple paper then to the front of an A2 card.  I finished it off with a few gems. 

I ended up with a bunch of images that I can use to create a variety of cards.

Super Saturday with Pam - Celebrating Friendship

Welcome back to Magenta Super Saturday.  For today’s card I’m celebrating the joys of friendship – I made this card for someone who has been my friend for many, many years.  You can also see today's card on the Magenta blog here.

I experimented with the Square Tile stencil, Nuance and Nuvo Glimmer embossing paste.  I used a die to cut a 4” square piece of white, mixed media paper.  Then I cut it in half diagonally.  Since I planned to use embossing paste on the paper, I decided to cut it in half before applying the paste, rather than after it dried.  I wasn’t sure if it would cut smoothly after the paste dried.)  

I taped the triangle to the back of the stencil then applied some sparkly embossing paste, removed the stencil and set it aside to dry.  I immediately washed the stenciling paste off the stencil.

After the paste dried, I tapped small amounts of aquamarine, turquoise and cerulean blue Nuance onto a craft sheet and sprayed lightly with water to create “paint”.  I spritzed the paper very lightly, then used a paint brush to pick up each of the colors and drop it onto the card, between the stenciled areas.  

I did this until the entire piece was covered. 

I ended up getting the color on the stenciled area, so I used a paper towel to blot off the excess color. 

Next I used Distress Oxide Sprays to create a background piece.  I sprayed Mermaid Lagoon, Broken China and Wilted Violet on another piece of mixed media paper.  I sprayed each color, added a bit of water and heat set.  

I sprayed another layer of color, dried and then added a third layer of color.  

I loved the final result and how the blues and purple blended together.  The color changes when I photograph it - the purples show through a lot in real life and you will see that on some of the other photos.

For the last step, I stamped the sentiment on a circle of cardstock.  I applied some Tumbled Glass Distress Ink around the edge to soften the bright white a bit.

I cut the Distress Oxide piece to 4” x 5 ¼” and the attached the stenciled triangle.  I trimmed the ends of the triangle even with the sides of the cardstock, then adhered to a piece of Glamour Green cardstock and then adhered it to an A2 card.  I adhered a piece of fun foam to the back of the sentiment circle, then adhered to the front of the card.  I added a few gems for a bit more sparkle.
