Magenta Super Saturday - Spring Daisies

Welcome back to my blog and Magenta Super Saturday.  For today’s card I used Distress inks to watercolor the image
I positioned the large and small daisy stamps in my MISTI then used Mustard Seed Distress ink to stamp the images on a piece of watercolor paper.  I used a very damp brush to blend the color into the center of the petals.
I stamped the images again with Ripe Persimmon Distress ink.  After the panel dried I stamped it again with VersaMark ink and embossed with clear embossing powder.  I repeated the process with the small daisy stamp.
For the background I found a piece in my stash that I created by applying green Pan Pastels to a piece of textured white cardstock.  I trimmed it to 4” x 5 ¼”, then stamped the sentiment in the lower right corner and embossed with clear embossing powder.  I fussy cut the daisies, then adhered them to the background.  I used foam adhesive on the back of the large daisy to give it extra dimension then adhered the piece to an A2 card.  I added a few sequins for some added sparkle.  You can also see my card on the Magenta blog here.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Welcome back to my blog and Magenta Super Saturday. There’s an old saying that “April showers bring May flowers.” The inspiration for this card comes from a card Kristina Werner posted on her blog which you can see here.

You can also see my card on the Magenta Blog here. I started my version of the card by taping a piece of watercolor paper to a solid surface (in my case it’s an old cutting board) to prevent the paper from curling.  I used my Elizabeth Craft watercolor paints and applied them in a rainbow order.
I started with Sap Green, moved to Deep Green, Viridian, Turquoise Blue, Prussian Blue and finished with Mauve.  I set it aside to dry thoroughly before adding a second layer of paint.  You can also dry the paper with a heat tool.  For the second layer I used my Iuile watercolors which are available on Etsy.  There are multiple sizes of watercolors available but the dot cards have a lot of paint on them! They are so sparkly but they look their best on dark cardstock.  However, applying the colors over a base color created a soft, shimmery background.
I chose colors from the Rainbow Dot Card and the Christmas Series Dot card that were similar to the colors I used in the first layer.  Also, it’s important to use a very small amount of water so the base color isn’t reactivated.
It’s hard to capture the shimmer effect but in real life there’s a beautiful glow on the cardstock.  After the second layer of color was dry, I removed the tape and cut the piece to 4” x 5 ¼”.
I placed it in my stamp positioner and stamped the large floral image from the “English Garden” stamp set using light green ink.  I colored the image with colored pencils then returned the piece to my stamp positioner.  I stamped the image again using VersaMark and then embossed with white embossing powder.  I repositioned the stamp, stamped again with green ink, then colored and embossed.  I stamped and embossed the “Happy Birthday sentiment then stamped, colored and embossed the floral image one more time.
I also stamped the small leaf the comes with the “English Garden” stamp set in the lower right corner.  The last step was to adhere the image to an A2 card made from Kraft cardstock.
One last tip, when I’m planning to stamp an image multiple times, I make a sample.  I cut a piece of scrap paper the same size as my cardstock and then use it to test my layout or in the case of this card, repositioning the stamp several times to determine the best layout.

Magenta Super Saturday - One Image, Three Cards

Welcome back to my blog.  I had so much fun making these cards.  I stamped and painted one large image then cut it into three pieces to create three cards.  You can also see my cards on the Magenta blog here

I stamped the Floral Background stamp onto a piece of Stonehenge Aqua Coldpress black watercolor paper with VersaMark ink, then embossed with gold embossing powder.

I taped the piece to a board  to keep the paper flat while I painted the flowers, leaves and berries.  I used Iuile watercolors that I found on the Etsy website.  If you follow Kristina Werner, you may have seen her use these watercolors on a Christmas card (which you can see here) or a Valentine card (which you can see here.)  I am in love with the rich colors and beautiful shine of these paints.
Iuile makes these great dot cards with very generous samples of many colors and they are very reasonably priced.  There’s more than enough paint on a card to do several projects so you can definitely try these before you decide to purchase the larger sizes.  You can see Iuile’s Etsy store here.
After I completed the painting, I let the piece dry thoroughly.  The watercolor paper I used is kind of delicate and to get a clean cut you need to use dies or a guillotine cutter.
I used the small stitched square dies from Gina K’s Master Layout set #4 cut out two 2 3/8” squares from one side of the image.
Then I used guillotine cutter to cut a strip 1 5/8” x 5”.    I cut pieces of coordinating solid color cardstock to mat each of the images.  I also cut cream cardstock – 3 ¼” x 4 ½” for the square images and 3 ¾” x 5” for the vertical piece.
I stamped the sentiments and embossed the images on the cream cardstock (gold embossing powder for the happy birthday, clear embossing powder for the other two cards.)
I positioned (but didn’t attach) each painted image on a piece of cream cardstock.  I wanted to add a bit of interest to the cream cardstock so I used VersaMark ink to stamp the small flower petal from the Petal Blossoms set a few times around the image and sentiment, then lightly brushed on Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls.
I adhered the cream cardstock onto pieces of solid cardstock, adhered the painted images and then adhered everything to an A2 card.

Shaving Cream Background Papers

Thanks for visiting my blog today.  I'm doing a special Wednesday post for Magenta today which you can also see here.

My grandson who will soon be twelve, recently took an on-line video editing class.  We started a YouTube channel called "Lady and the Stamp."  Isn't that a great name for a grandmother who loves to stamp?  We just posted our first video which features Magenta Nuance along with “Happy Birthday” and “Thank You” stamps. I've also seen this technique done with acrylic paints and ink refills, plus I think you could also use food coloring.  Magenta's Nuance colors are so versatile and there is such a wide variety of colors that I thought it would be fun to try it with this technique.  You can see the entire process in the video below.  If the video link doesn't work you can also see it here
You simply spray shaving cream onto a cookie sheet or other flat surface, sprinkle Nuance over the top, spritz with a bit of water and let it sit for a few minutes.  Then you run pieces of cardstock through the color to create a beautiful marbled effect on the paper.
These papers make great background pieces.  It’s a very fun technique so I hope that you will give it a try and then let us know what you think.

Magenta Super Saturday - Sparkling Flowers

Welcome back Magenta Super Saturday.  I had so much fun with today’s card so I hope you will enjoy it. You can also see my card on the Magenta blog here.
In addition to using Magenta’s beautiful stencils, I also used a couple of new products – the newest color of Distress Ink called Specked Egg and Stickles Glitter Gel.  I really love the newest color in the Distress ink line.  The Stickles Glitter Gels are filled with glitter and other chunky pieces of metallics that really sparkle.
I began by cutting a piece of 110# white cardstock to 4 1/8” x 5 ¼” then I used a blending brush to cover the entire piece with Distress Speckled Egg ink.  Next, I applied Distress Broken China around the outer edges, making a border of approximately 1” around the edges.  Finally, I blended Distress Mermaid Lagoon ink along the very outer edges.

When the cardstock was very dry, I stamped “Happy Birthday” in the center of the card using VersaFine Black Onyx ink, then embossed with clear embossing powder.  I die cut the center of the card using an oval stitched die and set the oval piece aside for later.

I taped the Petal Blossoms stencil to the front of the cardstock and blended Distress Wilted Violet over the top.

I removed the stencil and wiped the excess ink away, then repositioned the stencil on the cardstock.  Using a palette knife, I applied Stickles Solar Flare Glitter Gel over the top.

I gently lifted the stencil from the paper and placed it and the knife in some warm, soapy water.  I wiped the gel from the edges of the card and set it aside to dry.
When the gel was dry, I adhered the cardstock to the front of an A2 card. I adhered the oval sentiment to a piece of fun foam and then positioned it in the cutout area of the card.

I also created a second card using Distress Oxide inks in the same colors.  For the stenciling I used the leaves template from the Floral Background Trio stencil set and Distress Mowed Lawn Oxide Ink and then applied Stickles Supernova Glitter Gel over the top of the stencil.

Many Mandalas

Welcome back to Super Saturday.  I hope your New Year is off to a great start.   I need to make several birthday cards this month, so I decided to use pieces of the Flower Mandala Background stamp as the focal point on the card.  My card is also part of a Magenta blog post which you can see here.

Using my MISTI I stamped the image on the smooth side of watercolor paper, then embossed with gold or silver embossing powder.

I taped the paper to my work surface then I sprinkled nuance over the top.  I sprayed with water and then let it sit until dry.  (I used Bright Yellow, Orange and Red on one piece; Aquamarine, Lagoon and Violet on another piece.)
I also stamped the image on several different pieces of cardstock - white, tan, gray and blue, with VersaFine Smokey Gray ink.  I colored the images with Prismacolor pencils.
I returned the cardstock to my MISTI, generously used the powder tool all over the image and then restamped the image with VersaMark ink.  I embossed with gold or silver embossing powder, depending on the color of the cardstock.
I cut the mandala into 1 7/8” strips and I cut a 2 1/8” wide piece of pearlized purple background paper.  I placed that on a piece of 3 ¾” x 5” piece of white cardstock to determine where to stamp my sentiment.  I stamped the sentiment, then embossed with silver embossing powder.  I used a blending brush to add a bit of Tumbled Glass and Wilted Violet Distress ink.  I adhered the Mandala strip to the piece of background paper, then adhered them to the left side of the white cardstock.  This piece was adhered to another piece of pearlized purple paper then to the front of an A2 card.  I finished it off with a few gems.
I ended up with a bunch of images that I can use to create a variety of cards.

I hope you have a wonderful 2020, with lots of opportunities for crafting and creating.  Thanks for visiting my blog today.
