Magenta Super Saturday - An Irish Blessings Quote

Welcome back to my blog and Magenta Super Saturday.  I love this Irish Blessings quote and since my post is close to St. Patrick’s Day, it seemed like a good time to use it on a card.  You can also see my cards on the Magenta blog here. 

Start by stamping “Lonely Landscape” on a piece of white cardstock.  I’ve had this stamp for a long time so first I had to remove it from the wood block so I could use it in my stamping tool, which I needed to use for this technique.

I colored the image with my Pan Pastels.  You could just as easily use color pencils, chalks, markers or another medium but I haven’t used my Pan Pastels in a while and thought it would be fun to work with them again.  If you aren’t familiar with Pan Pastels, they are pastel powders in a cake form that you apply with sponges or other tools.  The colors are very rich and they are fun to work with.  After I finished coloring, I returned the image to my stamping tool, stamped with VersaMark ink, then embossed with gold embossing powder.  I cut out the image around the outer lines, then also cut out a piece of fun foam that was slightly smaller and adhered it to the back of the image.  I adhered this to a scrap piece of background paper I had previously created with green Nuance powders. 

Next, I stamped “Buds & Flourishes” randomly around the edges of a piece of Kraft cardstock with VersaMark ink.  I lightly applied gold Pan Pastel powder on top of the ink using a tapping motion, rather than a rubbing motion.  If you rub the powder into the stamped image, the ink will smear, but if you tap the powder on, you are pushing the powder into the ink without smearing it.  I positioned the “Irish Quote” sentiment on the right side and stamped with VersaFine Black Onyx ink.  Next, I trimmed the image to 3 ½” by 4 ¾” and then cut a slightly larger piece of dark green cardstock.

For the final step, I stamped “Buds & Flourishes” randomly around the edges of an A2 card and then tapped gold Pan Pastel on top.  Before assembling the card, I sprayed each stamped image with a fixative to prevent the Pan Pastels from smearing.  I set the images aside to dry, which didn’t take long, then assembled the card.

Magenta Super Saturday - One Image, Three Cards

Welcome back to my blog.  I had so much fun making these cards.  I stamped and painted one large image then cut it into three pieces to create three cards.  You can also see my cards on the Magenta blog here. 

I stamped the Floral Background stamp onto a piece of Stonehenge Aqua Coldpress black watercolor paper with VersaMark ink, then embossed with gold embossing powder.  

I taped the piece to a board  to keep the paper flat while I painted the flowers, leaves and berries.  I used Iuile watercolors that I found on the Etsy website.  If you follow Kristina Werner, you may have seen her use these watercolors on a Christmas card (which you can see here) or a Valentine card (which you can see here.)  I am in love with the rich colors and beautiful shine of these paints. 

Iuile makes these great dot cards with very generous samples of many colors and they are very reasonably priced.  There’s more than enough paint on a card to do several projects so you can definitely try these before you decide to purchase the larger sizes.  You can see Iuile’s Etsy store here.  

After I completed the painting, I let the piece dry thoroughly.  The watercolor paper I used is kind of delicate and to get a clean cut you need to use dies or a guillotine cutter.

I used the small stitched square dies from Gina K’s Master Layout set #4 cut out two 2 3/8” squares from one side of the image.  Then I used guillotine cutter to cut a strip 1 5/8” x 5”.    I cut pieces of coordinating solid color cardstock to mat each of the images.  I also cut cream cardstock – 3 ¼” x 4 ½” for the square images and 3 ¾” x 5” for the vertical piece. 

I stamped the sentiments and embossed the images on the cream cardstock (gold embossing powder for the happy birthday, clear embossing powder for the other two cards.)  

I positioned (but didn’t attach) each painted image on a piece of cream cardstock.  I wanted to add a bit of interest to the cream cardstock so I used VersaMark ink to stamp the small flower petal from the Petal Blossoms set a few times around the image and sentiment, then lightly brushed on Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls. 

I adhered the cream cardstock onto pieces of solid cardstock, adhered the painted images and then adhered everything to an A2 card.

Magenta Super Saturday - Valentine Hearts

 

Welcome back to my blog.  It’s time to start making Valentine’s cards at my house and today I have a very quick an easy one.  

It features two of my favorite Magenta stamps, the Heart Tapestry and “Love Makes the World Go Round.”  You can also see my card on the Magenta blog here. 

I cut a piece of 110# white cardstock to measure 4” x 5 ½”.  I placed it in my MISTI, then positioned the heart stamp in the upper left corner of the cardstock.  I inked the stamp with two shades of VersaFine Claire pigment ink and stamped the image. 

I slid the cardstock up (without moving the stamp) about 2 1/8”.  I cleaned the stamp, reinked and stamped the second heart image.

I repeated the same process a third time, then embossed the images with clear embossing powder.  I stamped the sentiment and embossed it with clear embossing powder also. 

I had originally planned something more elaborate for this card like ink smooshing with Distress Inks or trimming the strip of hearts and matting it on a strip of gold cardstock and then onto another piece of cardstock with the sentiment stamped on it.  However, after I finished the embossing, I decided that I liked the simplicity of the card and decided to stop.  I matted the card onto a piece of So Silk Beauty Pink cardstock, then onto the front of an A2 card.  I added a few gems for a bit of sparkle.  

I may still try my other ideas for this design because I love both of the stamps.  I hope you will try them too.

Magenta Super Super Saturday - Happy New Year

 

Welcome back to my blog.  I hope your New Year is off to a great start.  

I decided to make a set of tri-fold cards today using a set of Magenta puzzle stamps.  The Garden Flower Tile set has four different square stamps that work together beautifully but can also be used individually.  These cards will work well for any occasion but I plan to send them to friends just to say “hello.”  You can also my cards on the Magenta page here.

I positioned each of the stamps in my stamping tool and stamped them on a piece of desert storm cardstock with VersaFine Olympia Green ink.  I lined them up so there would be enough space to cut them out after I finished coloring them. 

Next, I colored the images with Prismacolor pencils (There’s a list of the colors I used below.)   I used my powder tool generously over all the images and returned the piece to my stamp positioner.  I restamped the images using VersaMark ink and then embossed with clear embossing powder.  I cut out all the images which created a 2” square.  Then I matted them on two slightly larger squares of cardstock. The first layers was a piece of embossed velvet that measured 2 ¼” square and the bottom layer of the square was 2 ½’ square.  I used a piece of double sided gold paper for the bottom layer because after the card is assembled, a small portion of the back of the square will be visible.

For the card bases I cut four pieces of desert storm cardstock to 4 1/2" x 11", then scored each piece at 1 3/4" and 7 1/8" and folded on the score lines to make tri-fold cards.

I stamped the Swirly Leaves stamp repeatedly on the card front with VersaMark ink and then embossed with Iridescent Sparkle embossing powder. 

To complete the cards I adhered the square stamped image to the front of the cards as shown in the picture above.  I added two accent strips of the same cardstock I used to mat the stamped image.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year.  I hope the coming year brings you peace, happiness and good health.  I decided to use a peace sentiment for my card as I hope that our world returns to normal in 2021.  My card is part of a collaborative blog post by the Magenta Design Team.  You can see all of their beautiful cards here.

I lined up the Egret in Reeds and Peace stamp in my stamping tool, then stamped the two images using VersaFine Black Onyx ink on a piece of 110# white cardstock.  I love to stamp with this ink because it stamps a very crisp image but you can also emboss it.  After stamping, I embossed both images with clear embossing powder.  

After embossing, I blended Distress Oxide Tumbled Glass and Mermaid Lagoon on the image with a blending brush.  I left some areas lighter than others to accent the bird and the sentiment.

To finish off, I trimmed down to the piece to approximately 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" with a deckle trimmer.  Then I blended Distress Oxide Chipped Sapphire around the edges.  I cut a piece of fun foam for the back of the image and adhered it to the front of a white, A2 card.

Magenta Super Saturday - Holiday Peace

Welcome back to Magenta Super Saturday – thank you for visiting.  Today I have a fun Christmas card which you can also see on the Magenta blog here.  After stamping with Distress ink, I used Tombow markers to enhance the image.

I began by cutting a piece of white cardstock to 4 1/8” x 5 3/8”.  I used a blending brush to cover the cardstock with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink.  Next, I blended Salty Ocean Distress Oxide around the outer edge, approximately 1” from each side.  Last, I blended Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxide along the very edge of the cardstock.  I set the piece aside to dry thoroughly because the next step involves embossing powder.  An easy way to see if the ink has dried thoroughly is to sprinkle some embossing powder on it, then tap it off.  If the powder sticks, the ink isn't dry. 

After the cardstock was dry, I placed it in my MISTI and used my powder tool liberally over the entire surface.  I positioned the Leafy Wreath stamp on the cardstock, then used Bundled Sage Distress Ink to stamp it.  I used this light color so because it wouldn't overpower the red shades I planned to use on the berries in the second step of this technique.) I left the stamp and cardstock in place and used Tombow markers directly on the stamp (all the colors are listed below.)  The MISTI is a great tool for this technique because you can stamp repeatedly until you are happy with the color on your image.  

I began by using red shades on the berries – I colored the berries on the stamp, then stamped and repeated until I was happy with the color of the berries.  

I followed the same process for the leaves by coloring the leaves with three different shades of green. I began with a light green and then added dark green accents.  I did a few leaves at a time until I was happy with the results. 

Leaving the stamp in the MISTI, I cleaned it thoroughly, then used Versamark to stamp the wreath again on top of the colored image.  I embossed the wreath with clear embossing powder. The embossing powder really made the colors darker and deeper.  I positioned the sentiment stamp in the center, stamped with VersaMark, then embossed with gold embossing powder.  To finish, I made a mask of the stamp, placed it over the wreath then splattered gold paint over the open areas. 

To finish, I layered the card front on a piece of gold cardstock, then adhered the panel to an A2 card.  This technique works great with solid stamps like this where you want to use more than one color on the image.

Magenta Super Saturday - Layered Stencils

Welcome back to my blog and Magenta Super Saturday.  You can also see today’s card on Magenta’s blog here.

For today’s card I decided to layer two stencils, Wavy Texture and Maple Leaf Trio.  I began by taping the Wavy Texture stencil to a piece of white, 110# cardstock that measured 4 ¼” x 5 ½”.  I applied Antique Linen Distress Oxide ink through the stencil and set it aside to dry.  Next, I stamped the sentiment in the lower right corner using Gathered Twigs Distress Oxide ink, then embossed with clear embossing powder. 

I placed the Maple Leaf stencil on top of the cardstock so that one of the leaves was in a corner.  I used blending brushes to apply Distress Oxide inks.  I used Crushed Olive, Mowed Lawn, Fired Brick and Wild Honey to shade the first leaf.  Before removing the stencil, I inked a section of the Water Drops stamp with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide ink and stamped over the leaf.  I removed the stencil and embossed the image with Iridescent Sparkle embossing powder.  I moved the stencil and inked another leaf, but this time used Fired Brick ink to stamp the water drops on the leaf.  I moved the stencil and repeated the process several times to fill in the background. 

After I added all the leaves, I used the corner of the Water Drops stamp to add some water drops randomly around the leaves. 

I cut the image down to 3 ¾” x 5”, added it to a piece of brown cardstock that was cut to 4” x 5 ¼”, then adhered them to the front of a white A2 card.
